Apostille in Yekaterinburg
An apostille (French: Apostille) is an internationally standardized form of certification that gives a document legal force in the territory of a foreign state. An “Apostille” stamp confirms the authenticity of the signature and seal on the certified document and certifies the position of the person who signed it. A document can be apostilled only if the country to which it will be sent is a party to the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 (List of countries that have signed the Hague Convention).
Even if a state is a party to the Hague Convention, an apostille may not be required because Russia has concluded legal assistance treaties with the list of countries that abolish the requirement to apostille documents.
The relevant authority is determined by the type of document that needs to be certified:
- Civil Registry Office: documents issued by civil registry offices (certificates, records)
- Ministry of Justice: notarized documents (copies, powers of attorney, consents, applications, etc.); copies of court decisions
- Ministry of Internal Affairs: police clearance certificate
- Ministry of Education: original educational documents (certificate, diploma of secondary/higher/additional education, diploma of retraining/advanced training)
The basic principle for issuing an apostille is that it must be affixed in the country or region where the document was issued.
